MLROs.com are pleased to bring you the first of our regular industry renowned conferences for 2017. Our conferences are always a great value, full day event, packed with major topical issues and expert speakers.
The conference will focus on the theme of investigations and enforcement, offering insights into managing and conducting internal and regulatory investigations, recent developments in money laundering, financial crime and tax legislation, the unique challenges of responding to incidents of cyber-crime, whistle-blowing, virtual currency issues, the prosecution of Libor and other financial crimes, global enforcement trends – and much more.
The delegate fee includes refreshments, lunch and a post event networking drinks reception, hosted by our friends at DLA Piper. The conference will be held at their London offices which are located at 3 Noble St, London EC2V 7EE on Wednesday, 18th January 2017.

Simon will highlight a number of recent developments in the criminal law which indicate that a new era of corporate compliance is upon us. Legal developments and associated enforcement strategies in relation to ABC, AML, tax and economic crime generally point to a deliberate strategy to force companies to police compliance more effectively. This effectively shifts the responsibility for compliance very firmly into the Boardroom. Topics for discussion include the proper preparation of risk assessments, the effective use of internal audit, the management of internal and regulatory investigations (especially involving cross-border issues), legal professional privilege, the benefits and drawbacks of cooperation with regulators, reporting obligations and the importance of effective public messaging. |

Having acted as junior counsel for Tom Hayes in the Libor trial, Christopher will offer a unique insights into this high profile and much debated case. Christopher will consider the practical reality of defending a prosecution brought by the Serious Fraud Office for financial crime offences. Christopher will also consider who, in reality, is being investigated and targeted by the authorities, offering views on whether, in spite of public statements, prosecutors are failing to hold those at the top of financial institutions to account. |

In this session Jonathan will explain how he set up the whistleblowing function at Barclays and some of the value it has delivered. As the former MLRO of Ladbrokes and a senior member of the AML team at the newly formed Ladbrokes Coral Group, Bill leads a team which is frequently required to conduct detailed investigations into suspicious activity and respond to requests from law enforcement agencies. Bill will reflect on his 30 years in the Metropolitan police and some of the lessons from this time that he applies to his role. Bill will also consider recent developments in AML compliance, offering views on some of the current and future challenges for compliance professionals, including those presented by the Fourth Anti-Money Laundering Directive. |

Siân is probably the leading expert in virtual currency regulation in Europe and a truly knowledgeable and engaging speaker.
With the European Commission now looking to specifically include virtual currencies in 4AMLD it is now imperative that we are all fully conversant with the actual issues at stake.
As Siân has had hands on input into the proposed new directive and also into FATF’s Guidance for a Risk-Based Approach to Virtual Currencies, no one is better placed to bring us up to date on the actual landscape and the possible outcomes that may come from the key decision points. |
