A very warm welcome to you all and many thanks for taking the time to stop by. This website is the end result of a rather random idea that I had about a year ago. Back then I was posting news stories up on the Fraud Consulting website and I wanted the content to be a little more exciting and so I decided to create a channel on YouTube. In considering a name for my channel I settled upon “The Fraud Tube” with the username “TheFraudTube” (I couldn’t have FraudTube as this was already taken). At around the same time I was (rather belatedly) getting to grips with twitter and started to announce any news postings and quite naturally I started to use the hashtag #TheFraudTube.
From these early seeds I gradually grew the Web 2.0 presence for #TheFraudTube across most of the major social media networks but I held off from creating a dedicated website. Having received mainly positive feedback from various people on LinkedIn and twitter I began to plan out how I might like this website to look and roughly what it might contain…but still I held off from going ahead, I knew it would take some considerable time and effort to get it right and ensure the quality is at least acceptable (well acceptable to me if not anyone else).
Thanks to some contacts of mine at the Merchant Risk Council (MRC), a couple of months ago I was given a good incentive to get this thing off the ground…basically #TheFraudTube was invited to become a media partner/sponsor for the MRC European Congress in Dublin. Before accepting I came to the conclusion that the only way forwards was to treat this as a lunch event for this website, and so here we are!
So, this is all new, the site has been done in a rather compressed time schedule and I fully expect that there will be the odd bug and typo here and there (I am sure Bennett will be reporting them back to me almost instantly).
This really is just an initial stab at things, there are plenty of additional features I have in mind but due time constraints many of these have not made the first “cut” (including such simple things as a search feature, a newsletter subscription form and rss feeds – all coming soon). More importantly though is that this is not a website for me, it is for you – the counter fraud community. As such I would really welcome your feedback (good and bad) as this will then help shape the future direction of the site…my overall goal is to ensure that this is a valuable and useful resource for all counter fraud specialists!
